Housing
Tucked into the woods overlooking campus, Paul Smith’s dormitories feature private bedrooms furnished with writing desks and wardrobes in apartment-style groups. Each apartment will be shared by up to four writers and is equipped with a kitchen, common living space, and two full bathrooms. WiFi, parking, and laundry facilities are all included in the cost of conference housing and available onsite. Barrier-free housing, as well as housing options for couples or families, is available in the dormitories; please contact conference staff in advance to request accessible or family housing.

For writers interested in exploring a wilder housing experience during the conference, we are happy to offer cost-effective camping options. Campers are welcome to shower in the gym, and will also have access to parking, laundry, and other campus and conference facilities. Applicants interested in camping should contact conference staff in advance to ensure campsite availability and plan to bring their own tents and gear.

Please note that housing is included in conference tuition; however, applicants who live nearby and plan to commute or prefer to arrange their own off-campus housing are welcome to do so. Please contact the conference directly for pricing information on tuition that does not include housing.

Recreation Opportunities
We want your time at Kettle Pond to be inspiring, both in and outside of formal conference events. As the only college in the Adirondack Park, Paul Smith’s offers all participating writers access to over twenty miles of well-maintained wilderness trails, ranging through deciduous forest, lookout points, lakeside habitats, and boardwalks across pristine wetland. We encourage you to take advantage of the setting that makes Kettle Pond unique. Take a generative nature walk, a bird watching jaunt, or a moonlit hike; paddle a canoe across Lower St. Regis Lake. Find a wild spot of your own and work on some edits, or write something new. Paul Smith’s College is also pleased to offer their yoga studio for scheduled classes or self-directed sessions, a climbing wall, and access to the campus gym. You can even borrow one of the college’s kayaks or canoes. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to give a poetry reading on an island in an alpine lake, this is your chance to find out. We encourage our writers to create their own small group events or to pitch them to us for announcement to the whole conference community.

Dining
The Kettle Pond Writers’ Conference will provide meals for your entire week with us. Please let us know if you have a food allergy, restriction or specific dietary concerns -- we can accommodate almost anything we know about in advance. Campus housing comes equipped with shared kitchens for participants who would like to keep or prepare their own food outside of mealtimes. For local dining and grocery options, please see our FAQ.

Please note that kitchens in campus housing feature refrigerators, stoves, and ovens, but do not come equipped with dishes or cooking utensils. Participants interested in the cooking during the week should plan, independently or in coordination with the other writers in their apartments, to bring their own tools.

Conference Facilities

In addition to recreation facilities, all writers attending the conference will have access to campus academic facilities during regular hours, including the college library and a 24-hour computer lab, both of which have access to printing.

Accessibility
While not every facility on campus is barrier-free, the conference is able to accommodate writers with disabilities in our housing, dining, and workshop facilities, as well as at all conference events. Please see our accessibility page for more information.
